Fitchburg Federal offers no-interest loans
for qualified energy efficiency projects

FITCHBURG, MASSACHUSETTS, May 28, 2008 … Barbara L. Goodwin, president and CEO of Fitchburg Federal Credit Union, announced today that the Credit Union is offering 0% APR loans of up to $10,000 for the installation of qualified energy efficiency projects.

To bring the ”HEAT loan” program to local homeowners, the Credit Union has partnered with with MassSAVE, a program financed and operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities and the Massachusetts Division of Energy Resources.

According to Goodwin, HEAT loans can be used for eligible measures recommended through a MassSAVE energy audit, including: air and duct sealing, insulation for attics, walls, and basement ceiling, domestic hot water systems and high efficiency heating systems as well as installation of Energy Star® replacement windows.

Do-it-yourself installations are not eligible for HEAT Loan financing, according to Goodwin. Borrowers must be occupying owners of one- to four-family homes and have a current electric account with one of the local participating MassSAVE electric companies: National Grid, NStar, Western Mass Electric, Fitchburg Gas & Light/Unital, and Cape Light Company. The utility will determine whether the project qualifies for the HEAT Loan program. Participation in the 0% APR loan program is also contingent on loan approval by the Credit Union, subject to established lending guidelines.

The first step in the process is to request a MassSAVE energy audit of the property where the project is planned. Complete program information is available at www.MassSAVE.com, and at the Credit Union.
